Sugar Free hot cross buns

Sugar Free treats can help you to prevent tooth decay

Easter is fast approaching with all its delicious treats! We all love a chocolate egg (we recommend dark chocolate as it’s lower in sugar- Green and Black’s have a delicious mint chocolate egg!), but our firm favourite Easter staple are hot cross buns! Unfortunately for our teeth (and our waistlines!), hot cross buns are full of sugar and dried fruit which sticks to our teeth.

Although none of us were willing to give them up, we did think of a way to make them more tooth friendly in the aim to prevent tooth cavities– we hope you like them as much as we did!

P.S: They’re also low in carbohydrates, so you won’t feel as guilty if you reach for a second!

Ingredients:

  • Coconut Flour (60g)
  • Psyllium Husk (30g- this stuff is amazing if you’re feeling bloated/“blocked up”-thank us later!)
  • Baking powder (1tsp)
  • Stevia (2tbsp)
  • Salt (pinch)
  • Mixed spice (1/2tsp)
  • Cinnamon (1/2tsp)
  • Cloves (1/2tsp)
  • Eggs (4)
  • Boiling water (250ml)
  • Raisins (to taste, though we added 2tbsp)

Method:

  • Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl
  • Whisk the eggs and then pour into the dry mixture
  • Add the boiling water and combine
  • Roll into 8 equal balls and place on a grease-lined baking tray
