Snacks that your teeth will appreciate
Finding healthy snacks that are good for your teeth and overall health can be a challenge. Finding some that your kids will like is an even bigger challenge! Below we have listed our favourite tooth-friendly snacks that you and your family will enjoy:
Yogurt drops:
Mix natural yogurt (low fat or fat free if you’re watching your calorie intake) mix well with some runny honey (or fruit purée) and spoon small, button-like amounts on some parchment paper on a tray and leave in the freezer (preferably overnight).
Fresh smoothies:
Smoothies are better for your teeth than juices, because they contain milk and less fruit. We suggest a blueberry and banana smoothie, blended with semi-skimmed milk, a couple of tablespoons of natural yogurt and some oats to thicken. Blueberries contain fibre, are high in vitamin C and are known for their cholesterol-lowering properties. Bananas are also rich in fibre and Vitamin C as well as potassium, which is known to regulate blood pressure. The milk and yogurt are great sources of calcium, which will keep your teeth and bones strong and healthy. Oats are also very rich in fibre and can help lower cholesterol. We recommend drinking smoothies with a straw to prevent the acidity of the fruit from damaging your enamel.
Rice/Oat cakes with a nut butter or cream cheese:
Both rice and oat cakes are healthy sources of carbohydrates and paired with a nut butter are both filling and nutritious. Please make sure that the nut butter you choose doesn’t have any added salt or sugar. Meridian is a great brand that doesn’t use any palm oil, sugar or salt. Alternatively, you could spread some cream cheese (a light version if you’re watching your calorie intake) with some cucumber, diced tomatoes or sweet peppers.
