On a cold winter’s afternoon when the children are off from school, baking holiday treats is a really fun activity! However, over-indulging on sugary and calorie filled treats throughout the holidays can have consequences on your teeth and oral health.
However, we think that Santa deserves a little (healthier) snack when he’s delivering all the Christmas goodies, so if you’d like to do some baking, why don’t you give this sugar-free gingerbread man recipe a try?
For your tooth friendly snack you’ll need:
1 large egg
1 tablespoon coconut oil (melted) at room temperature
2 tablespoons of honey
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of ground ginger
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
1 pinch of salt
315 grams of wholewheat flour
Method
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees celsius
In a large bowl, beat the egg. Then add the coconut oil and salt until well combined. Mix in the flour until a firm dough is formed. Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough out.
Using you favourite cookie cutter shapes, cut them out, place them on parchment paper on a baking tray and bale for twelve minutes.
Allow time to cool entirely and decorate as you wish! (We recommend coconut flakes and pistachios!)
